Workshops

I run writing workshops for people of all ages. The workshops are engaging and fun, and build participants’ skills and passion for writing. I have experience running workshops for arts organisations, councils, schools and universities.

MEMOIR/CREATIVE NONFICTION

Participants experiment with a range of life writing genres, which can include memoir, personal essays, creative nonfiction and experimental nonfiction. Learn strategies and techniques for writing short pieces, long-form essays, a memoir or a nonfiction book. Topics covered include generating ideas, the ethics of writing about family and friends, pitching to editors, researching a topic, working with an editor on edits, invoicing and taxes as a freelance, and general aspects of freelance writing.

FREELANCE WRITING

Participants learn how to develop a story from an idea through to a finished piece. Topics include generating ideas, forming a unique response to current issues and news, the ethics of reporting, pitching to editors, researching your topic, interviewing sources, transcribing and writing up interviews, creating a headline or title, working with an editor on edits, invoicing and taxes as a freelancer,  and general aspects of freelance writing.

CUSTOMISABLE WORKSHOPS

I can put together a workshop that suits the need of your organisation or group. I also run professional development for educators, and diversity and inclusion training.

All workshops are accessible and inclusive, and can be adapted for any group of people; just let me know your needs. I have Mental Health First Aid training, CPR training, a Working With Children Check, and full teacher registration from the Victorian Institute of Training.
